At least 628 hectares of forests were affected by fires in Ukraine on Thursday, August 5, the spokesman for the State Forestry Committee, Andriy Solimov, has told Interfax-Ukraine.

He said that 50 fires had broken out in forests subordinated to the State Forestry Committee, or around 67 percent of all forests in Ukraine, on Thursday. The area hit by fires is about 75 hectares, he added.

Solimov noted that 14 fires had been reported in the forests subordinated to other forest users (the forests of the Defense Ministry, the Agriculture Ministry, and municipally-owned forests), which provided reports to the State Forestry Committee. The area affected by fires is about 553 hectares, he said.
