You're reading: Yanukovych invites Platini to Ukraine to show off progress in preparations for Euro 2012

Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has assured UEFA President Michel Platini that the Ukrainian government and he personally are paying special attention to the country's preparations for the Euro 2012 European Football Championship in order to ensure a high level of hosting the championship.

"The government and I will continue to provide maximum support to the issues of preparing for and hosting the finals of the Euro 2012 European championship in order to ensure the proper level of its organization," the presidential press service quoted him as saying in a letter to Platini.

Yanukovych pointed to a substantial reduction in the delay in the schedule of work being conducted at main infrastructure facilities."At the same time, we accept constructive criticism and are trying to resolve on time all of the potential problems and threats that may arise in preparations for the championship," the letter said.

"I would be grateful if you accept my invitation and soon visit Ukraine to personally see the progress being made in preparations for the tournament," Yanukovych said.
