Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has streamlined the presidential administration's control over the activities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and other military units.

According to decree No 815 on the provision of control over the Armed Forces of Ukraine and other military units dated August 13, which was previously exercised by the secretariat of the head of state, will now be conducted by the presidential administration.

In this regard, Yanukovych abolished two decrees of his predecessor, Viktor Yuschenko, in particular decree No 1067 dated December 12, 2006 on the measures to strengthen control over the Armed Forces of Ukraine and other military units and decree No 49 dated January 30, 2007 on the provision of control by the Ukrainian president over military units.

According to Yanukovych’s decree, the inspectorate for control over the activities of military forces (made up of the main department of defense policy and the activities of law enforcement agencies of the presidential administration of Ukraine) will be additionally charged with monitoring the state of arms and military equipment, as well as the military forces’ activities on the disposal of the surplus military property and ammunition.
