You're reading: Most migrants detained by Ukrainian border guards are citizens of CIS countries

Officers of the State Border Service of Ukraine detained over 1,500 illegal immigrants in the first seven months of 2010, whereas another 10,000 potential illegal immigrants were denied entry to Ukraine.

The State Border Service of Ukraine reported on Monday that most migrants were the natives of the CIS countries.

The service also said that on August 15 border guards had detained seven illegal immigrants from Russia, Georgia and Moldova at the border with Slovakia and Hungary. Border guards had to use weapons while arresting three citizens of Georgia, while a citizen of Moldova resisted arrest.
