The Prosecutor General's Office of Ukraine has opened a criminal case against officials of the State Pharmacological Center of the Ukrainian Health Ministry, the press service of the Prosecutor General's Office of Ukraine reported on Monday.

With the assistance of officials of the state-run enterprise State Pharmacological Center of the Health Ministry of Ukraine, over 30 samples of pharmaceuticals containing narcotic drugs and their precursors, including Terosim, Bolareks, HLEKS SR and others, were illegally imported to Ukraine in 2007 through 2010, reads a report.

According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, the quality of these samples was often tested by laboratories which had no licenses for such activities.

"But then, on the basis of the conclusions of the State Pharmacological Center, the Health Ministry took decisions on the state registration of these medicines," reads the report.

The Prosecutor General’s Office of Ukraine opened a criminal case on the abuse of official authorities by officials of the State Pharmaceutical Center (part 1 of Article 364 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine) and service negligence (part 1 of Article 367 of the Criminal Code); violation of the rules of handling of narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances and precursors by laboratory officials (Article 320 of the Criminal Code); narcotic drugs smuggling (Article 305 of the Criminal Code); and the illegal storage and transportation of psychotropic substances (Article 309 of the Criminal Code).
