You're reading: Medvedev greets Ukrainian counterpart Independence Day

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has sent a greeting on the occasion of the national holiday – Ukraine's Independence Day to Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych.

The Russian Embassy to Ukraine told Interfax-Ukraine that Medvedev expressed hope in his greeting that the coming bilateral meetings as a part of the interstate commission with participation of Ukrainian and Russian presidents to be held this autumn would allow strengthening the positive pace of Russian-Ukrainian relations for the sake of citizens of the two countries in the interests of stability and security on the European continent.

The Russian president said that Russia and Ukraine are connected by centuries-old traditions of good neighborly relations, spiritual roots and glorious pages of joint history.

"We’ve been successfully developing multilateral strategic partnership, achieving fruitful results in the trade and economic spheres, coordinating approaches as a part of integrated cooperation and multilateral organizations on the wide range of issuers of the regional international agenda," reads the greeting.

The Russian president wished his Ukrainian counterpart good health and success and he wished prosperity to the Ukrainian nation.
