You're reading: Yanukovych hopes diplomas of Ukrainian universities are recognized in Syria

Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has said he hopes that the issues of the recognition of the diplomas of Ukrainian higher education establishments by Syria are resolved in the near future.

He said this at a meeting with Foreign Minister of Syria Walid al Muallem in Kyiv on Wednesday, the press service of the president reported.

Yanukovych also said he is hopeful the revival of a dialogue on the highest level strengthens Ukrainian-Syrian relations.

"A visit by Syrian President Bashar al-Assad will be welcomed in Ukraine," he said.

Yanukovych also said he is sure that "the holding of Days of Ukrainian Culture in Syria this year will contribute to closer ties between our nations, their spiritual enrichment and the reinforcement of mutual trust."

The Ukrainian president said there was significant potential for bilateral cooperation in various spheres, including in the oil and gas sector, transport, the electrical power industry, the high-tech sphere, the engineering industry, and agriculture.

The Syrian foreign minister, in turn, said he hoped mutual trade would significantly increase in the near future. He also thanked president Yanukovych for the invitation to the Syrian president to visit Ukraine.
