New flooding threatens to Zakarpatia
March 26, 2001 at 20:00According to weather forecasts, on Monday and Tuesday heavy rains are expected to fall in this region of Ukraine, and water levels in Zakarpatia-area rivers are predicted to rise by two meters.
Last week, water levels in the region receded after causing major flood damage. As of Monday morning only three villages remained under water, the report said.
Nine fatalities have been reported since flooding began in the region.
Floodwaters began ravaging the region in early March in the wake of heavy rains and melting snow coming off the Transcarpathian mountains.
