You're reading: Pirates capture ship with Ukrainian and Russian crew

Somali pirates have attacked a German cargo container ship, the Magellan Star, with Ukrainian and Russian sailors aboard, the Maritime Bulletin reported on Thursday.

"The pirates captured the ship, but the crew managed to lock themselves in a shelter, the engine room or the steering compartment, or some other special room," reads the information.

According to reports, on the night of September 8 the crew were waiting to be rescued by the military.

The crew consists of 11 people: six citizens of France, two Russians and one Ukrainian, one Pole, and one Bulgarian as of the end of July.

Ukrainian diplomats are investigating the report, according to Head of the Information Department of the Foreign Ministry of Ukraine Oleh Voloshyn.
