Ukraine is currently not prepared for the increase in the retirement age, ex-Ukrainian President Leonid Kuchma said.

"We cannot currently do that. We can talk about this when salaries and the living wage are increased. It will be impossible to live with current pensions," he said at a press conference in Dnipropetrovsk on Saturday.

Kuchma said that it was currently unnecessary to increase the retirement age.

"We have to wait. We’ll be obliged to [increase the retirement age], but this shouldn’t be done right now," he said.
