Russian President Dmitry Medvedev and Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych will hold meetings on September 17-18 to discuss cooperation in the energy industry, including the integration of the two countries' nuclear sectors, a Kremlin source said.

"The two heads of state are expected to consider the status and prospects for cooperation in areas such as fuel and energy, transport, and science and technology. Much attention will be paid to the subject of integrating the Russian and Ukrainian nuclear power sectors," the source from the Russian presidential administration said, adding that joint programs in the aviation industry would also be discussed.

The discussion will also focus on transport cooperation. The presidents will discuss, in particular, prospects for implementing a project to build a transport route through the Strait of Kerch.

Medvedev and Yanukovych plan to exchange their views on bilateral investment, including improving the work environment for businessmen in the two countries, the source said.

In January – June 2010, trade between Russia and Ukraine nearly doubled compared to the same period in 2009 and stood at almost $16 billion; Russian exports topped $10 billion, Ukrainian imports stood at $5.9 billion.
