Head of the Respiratory Disease Center of Ukraine Oleksandr Hrynevych has recommended starting of influenza vaccinations in September.

"Children and adults should start undergoing flu vaccinations in September, but it wouldn’t be too late to do it in December and January," he said at a press conference in Kyiv on Thursday.

According to Hrynevych, five types of flu vaccine were registered in Ukraine and the vaccination of the public has started.

In turn, Head of Vilnius University Clinic of Children’s Diseases Vytautas Usonis noted that vaccine is not a medicine and it takes several weeks for immunity to build up. Early autumn is thus the best time for vaccination, he said.

Usonis also stressed the importance of the vaccination of pregnant women.
