You're reading: Bust of Ukrainian poet Taras Shevchenko unveiled in Copenhagen

Ukrainian Deputy Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin, during his working visit to Denmark, unveiled a bronze bust of Ukrainian poet Taras Shevchenko in the Danish capital, Copenhagen, on Friday, September 24, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry's foreign policy department has reported.

The bust was built and put up at the initiative and direct support of the Danish-Ukrainian Society.

While speaking with members of the Danish-Ukrainian Society, Klimkin noted the importance of the event, thanked them for their efforts taken to honor the memory of the founder of modern Ukrainian language on Danish soil and passed them letters of congratulation on this occasion from Ukrainian Foreign Minister Kostiantyn Hryschenko.

The bust unveiling ceremony was attended by representatives of Copenhagen Municipality, members of the Danish-Ukrainian Society, Danish journalists, as well as diplomats accredited in Denmark.

The bust of Shevchenko became the fifth monument in Copenhagen that was erected to perpetuate the memory of famous personalities. Monuments to Franklin Roosevelt, Winston Churchill, Mahatma Gandhi and Dante Alighieri were earlier unveiled in the city.
