The Ukrainian government hopes that Poland will assist Ukraine in its movement towards European integration, Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykola Azarov said at a briefing in Kharkiv on Saturday, following his meeting with Polish President Bronislaw Komorowski.

"We want to raise issues before our Polish colleagues so that they actively promote the European integration of Ukraine at European forums, i.e. we will raise the same issues before our Polish colleagues, which we raised before the EU leadership and the leadership of EU member states," he said.

In particular, Azarov pointed to the issues of speeding up the creation of a free trade area, accelerating work on signing the EU-Ukraine association agreement, as well as introducing the visa-free regime with the European Union.

He said that the Ukrainian government currently saw no problems in relations between Poland and Ukraine. He also stressed the need to intensify trade and economic cooperation between the two countries and enhance cooperation in their preparations for hosting the Euro 2012 European Football Championship.

Azarov said that he would visit Poland on September 30 to meet with his Polish counterpart Donald Tusk.

As reported, a meeting between the presidents of Ukraine and Poland is to be held in Yalta, Crimea, in early October.
