You're reading: Investigation into death of student at police department complete

The investigation into the death of student Ihor Indylo at the Shevchenkivsky district department of police in Kyiv has been completed and sent to court, Prosecutor General of Ukraine Oleksandr Medvedko said at a meeting with Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych on Monday, the president’s press service has told Interfax-Ukraine.

“The attention on this case should not be eased, the president noted at the meeting with the prosecutor general,” the press service said.

President Yanukovych said he hopes that the ruling by the court on this case will be just.

The press service of the Prosecutor General’s Office, in turn, said that a district police officer and police officer of the call center of Shevchenkivsky district department of Kyiv are accused of abuse of office and dereliction of duty respectively (part two of Article 365 and part one of Article 367 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

“The criminal case with an indictment was sent today to the Shevchenkivsky district court for consideration,” the press service added.

As reported, Kyiv prosecutor’s office, following the death of the student at the Shevchenkivsky district department of police in Kyiv, on May 28 opened a criminal case on the abuse of office by the employees of this department. The case was opened under Article 365 of the Criminal Code, which foresees up to ten years of imprisonment.

Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych charged Prosecutor General Oleksandr Medvedko with personally overseeing the investigation into the criminal case on the death of student Ihor Indylo at Shevchenkivsky district police department.
