Czech authorities have detained Ukraine's former economy minister Bohdan Danylyshyn after he was accused of abuse of office at home, the Ukrainian Interior Ministry said on Tuesday.

Danylyshyn is the highest-ranking official of the previous government, led by Yulia Tymoshenko, to face criminal charges since her long-time opponent Viktor Yanukovich beat her in a tight presidential race in January.

Ukraine issued a warrant for Danylyshyn in August, saying he was believed to be abroad. He could not be reached for comment on the charges.

Two other senior officials of the last government, the former head of customs and the former acting chief executive of state energy firm Naftogaz, were detained earlier this year in what Tymoshenko has described as "political repressions". The Interior Ministry said in a statement it had been informed of Danylyshyn’s detention by the Czech Republic’s Interpol bureau.
