There are reasons for Ukrainian diplomats to doubt the impartiality of the European politicians who are drafting a resolution of the European Parliament on the situation in Ukraine, which is expected to be approved on Oct. 21, a high-ranking official in the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry told Interfax-Ukraine on Wednesday.

According to him, Secretary of the Venice Commission of the Council of Europe, Thomas Markert, informed the Ukrainian side that he had sent a letter to MPs of the European Parliament from the European People’s Party, Krzysztof Lisek and Paweł Zalewski, in which he expressed anxiety that the draft resolution has refers to a statement that was allegedly made by him that the Constitutional Court of Ukraine exceeded its authorities while making the ruling on the so-called political reform of December 2004.

In his letter, Markert stated that "the Constitutional Court of Ukraine is the higher institution authorized to interpret the Ukrainian Constitution and it would be incorrect for the Venice Commission to make statements that call the court’s ruling into question."

"This information makes one suspicious about the motives of the authors of the draft resolution of the European Parliament from the European People’s Party," the report said.
