You're reading: Parliament approves to send Ukraine peacekeepers to Cote d’Ivoire

The Verkhovna Rada, Ukraine's parliament, has approved President Viktor Yanukovych's decision to send Ukrainian peacekeepers to Cote d'Ivoire.

A total of 240 lawmakers out of the 398 registered in the parliament’s session hall on Thursday voted for the law to approve the president’s decision on the participation of Ukrainian peacekeepers in providing support to the UN mission in Cote d’Ivoire.

Parliament also approved the president’s decision to send peacekeepers to the UN mission in Liberia, which provides assistance to the UN mission in Cote d’Ivoire during the country’s presidential elections.

Under the decision of the Ukrainian parliament, two MI-8 helicopters and 25 soldiers will be sent to Cote d’Ivoire.

Ukrainian military will stay in the country during the presidential elections and two months after their completion.

All expenses will be covered by the United Nations.
