Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has met with Microsoft Corporation CEO Steve Ballmer, the presidential press service has reported.

Welcoming his guest to Kyiv, Yanukovych thanked him for promoting relations between Microsoft and Ukraine.

"I want to stress the importance of your company’s activities in Ukraine in the development of information technology and the implementation of innovative projects in education," he said.

Yanukovych noted that the rapid development of science and technology, as well as technological and scientific exchanges, was a sign of a modern country.

"Economic competitiveness is determined by the pace of the introduction of the latest scientific and technological projects and the level of development of the high-tech industry," he said.

That’s why, the president added, Ukraine has chosen an innovative and investment model for its further development, and its provisions are outlined in its economic reform program for 2010-2014.

In his opinion, the country has many prerequisites for such a development path.

"We have considerable scientific and technological potential – a developed system of academic and research institutions, and skilled professionals and scientists," Yanukovych said.
