Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has congratulated his Polish counterpart Bronislaw Komorowski on his country's national holiday - the Independence Day of Poland.

"The history of the development of the sovereign Polish state is considered to be an example of consistent and successful transformation towards a developed democratic country, which corresponds to the European political, legal, economic and social standards," the presidential press service quoted Yanukovych’s letter of congratulation on Thursday.

He said that due to the consolidated efforts of its people, Poland had adopted "influential positions in the European and Euro-Atlantic space."

Yanukovych said that "the strong traditions of good-neighborly relations and strategic partnership" between the two countries would "develop and strengthen for the sake of the stability and prosperity of a united Europe."

"I hope that very soon we’ll get a nice opportunity to meet and continue the fruitful dialog that is characteristic of the Ukrainian-Polish relations," he said.

The Independence Day of Poland is celebrated every year on November 11 to commemorate the anniversary of the country’s assumption of independent statehood in 1918 after 123 years of partitions by Austria-Hungary, Prussia and Russia.
