Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has signed a decree ordering the Foreign Ministry to draw up in a month a project on the country's strategic foreign policy priorities until 2015.

Yanukovych also instructed the ministry to submit proposals to resolve problems in Ukrainian-Moldovan relations, and draft jointly with the secretariat of the National Security and Defense Council and submit under the established procedure draft decrees on a strategy of relations between Ukraine and Romania and on a program of comprehensive measures to address problems in Ukrainian-Romanian relations and counter threats to Ukraine’s national security.

The Foreign Ministry was also ordered to put forward proposals on the adoption of measures aimed at strengthening Ukraine’s position in the Transdniestrian settlement process and intensifying the dialog with partners in the 5+2 format (Moldova, Transdniestria, Russia, Ukraine, the OSCE, the EU, and the United States), taking into account Ukraine’s national interests.

Yanukovych ordered the Foreign Ministry, along with the Ukrainian Defense Ministry, to analyze Ukraine’s participation in international peacekeeping operations and to submit respective proposals.

These decisions were taken given a comprehensive analysis of the challenges and threats to Ukraine’s national security in 2011.

A respective decree, No.1119/2010, regarding a National Security and Defense Council decision of November 17, 2010 on the challenges and threats to Ukraine’s national security in 2011 has been posted on the official Web site of the head of state.
