The recent progress seen in Ukrainian-Russian relations should be consolidated and extended, Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has said.

"We need to consolidate the progress achieved in relations with Russia," he said at the tenth meeting of heads of Ukraine’s foreign diplomatic missions in Kyiv on Tuesday.

Yanukovych stressed the need to revive bilateral relations following years of confrontation.

The president listed among the priorities of bilateral relations the signing of a declaration on the content of the Ukrainian-Russian strategic partnership, programs of economic cooperation between the two countries until 2020, the demarcation of the land border and maritime delimitation, and issues related to the Black Sea Fleet’s deployment on Ukrainian territory.

"In relations with Russia, we are guided by the principles of equality, mutual respect, pragmatism and mutual benefit," the president said.
