Ukraine is planning to take an active part in improving a new architecture of European security, Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has said.

"By declaring our decision not to participate in military alliances, we have removed unnecessary tension in relations with many of our strategic partners. But I want to note that in the interests of peace and security, Ukraine will take an active part in improving a new architecture of European security and participate in peacekeeping operations under the auspices of the United Nations and NATO," he said on Tuesday at a meeting with the heads of the diplomatic missions of foreign states and international organizations accredited in Ukraine.
