You're reading: Russia should minimize damage to reputation of Ukrainian library in Moscow

Ukraine's Culture Minister Mykhailo Kulyniak has appealed to his Russian counterpart Alexander Avdeyev in connection with the situation around Russia's only library of Ukrainian literature.

Kulyniak asked Avdeyev to minimize the damage to the reputation of the Ukrainian Literature Library, the press service of the Ukrainian Culture Ministry reported.

On December 18 the Moscow city prosecutor’s office launched criminal proceedings in relation to the spread of literature marked by ethnic enmity in the grounds of the library in 2008-2010.

A study conducted by the Institute of Linguists of the Russian Academy of Sciences had recognized that publications incited national enmity and hatred.

The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry earlier said that it expected that Russian government officials, in their actions with respect to the library, will be guided by the need to meet the educational and cultural needs of ethnic Ukrainians living in Russia.
