You're reading: Yanukovych signs law on culture

Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has signed a law on culture, the president’s press service reported on Thursday, Jan. 6.

On December 14, 2010, the Verkhovna Rada, Ukraine’s parliament, passed the law on culture, which was drawn up by the government.

The law comes into effect from the moment of its publication, apart from the clauses of Article 29 on the payment and promotion of work of employees in the sphere of culture.

In particular, part two of Article 29, under which the state ensures a full-time job, proper labor conditions, and salaries to employees of the sphere of culture who work at state-run and municipal establishments of culture, will come into effect on January 1, 2012.

In addition, another clause of the law, under which employees of the sphere of culture and teachers at educational institutions who work at state-run and municipal establishments of culture have the right to assistance in health improvement to the value of their monthly salary during their annual vacation, as well financial aid to resolve social and residential issues and a long-service benefit of an amount and paid according to a procedure set by the Cabinet of Ministers, will come into effect on January 1, 2013.
