A special meeting dedicated to Ukrainian Unity Day and the 92nd anniversary of signing of the act on the reunion of the Ukrainian People's Republic (UPR) and the Western Ukrainian People's Republic (WUPR) was held in Ivano-Frankivsk on Friday.

An Interfax-Ukraine correspondent reported that the event was held near a monument to WUPR heroes on Hriunvaldska Street.

Over 2,000 people took part in the event, including representatives of local government bodies, city residents, members of public organizations and political parties, in particular, Svoboda, the Regions Party, Batkivschyna, Ukrainian People’s Party, the Congress of Ukrainian Nationalists, Front for Change, Our Ukraine, and People’s Rukh.

Ivano-Frankivsk Regional Council Chairman Oleksandr Sych, Ivano-Frankivsk Mayor Viktor Anushkevychus, Deputy Ivano-Frankivsk Regional Administration Chairman Roman Ivanitsky and others delivered a speech to participants in the meeting.

Sych, in particular, called for residents of Halychyna to do everything for Ukraine’s unity "by their own actions and words" in order "for unity to be true and real".

"Other countries have no fewer problems than we have but, nevertheless, they don’t put the emphasis on these problems but search for those things that unite the nation and state, and do not search for those things that separate them. Let’s cherish those things that unite us!" Sych said.

The regional council chairman also noted that the order to celebrate Unity Day was given by Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych.
