You're reading: Ukrainian nationalists’ memorial vandalized in Kryvy Ryh

Vandals have destroyed a memorial cross to "the Ukrainian fighters for freedom" in Kryvy Rih in Ukraine's Dnipropetrovsk region, leader of the local branch of the nationwide organization called "Freedom" Yuriy Nastusenko told Interfax-Ukraine.

The memorial cross was erected near a church. The cross was knocked from its concrete basis and smashed into pieces by a sledgehammer.

"This is none other than an anti-Ukrainian stunt. And all this because of the names engraved on the cross, in particular, hetman Bohdan Khmelnytsky, head of the Ukrainian People’s Republic Directorate Symon Petliura, leader of the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists Stepan Bandera, poet Vasyl Stus, Hero of Ukraine Shushkevych, Vyacheslav Chornovil and others," Nastusenko said.

The Kryvy Rih branch of the Freedom organization has reported the act of vandalism to the police, he said.
