Ukraine hopes that the resignation of Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak on Feb. 11 will be the starting point in the modern history of Egypt towards the implementation of systemic social and economic reforms that will meet the aspirations of the Egyptian people.

"A speedy stabilization of the political situation in this key country in the Arab world will ensure the further successful development of effective cooperation between Ukraine and Egypt in all spheres," Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Oleksandr Dykusarov said at a briefing on Feb.15, while commenting on the situation in Egypt.

He also said that Ukrainian Foreign Minister Kostiantyn Hryschenko had instructed all Ukrainian diplomatic agencies in North Africa and the Middle East to strengthen the monitoring of the situation and keep in touch with Ukrainian citizens who were registered at consular offices in these countries and to exert maximum efforts to protect their rights.

Dykusarov said that, as previously promised, all Ukrainian tourists who were vacationing in Egypt had returned to Ukraine by Feb. 13.
