You're reading: Evacuation of Ukrainians from Libya postponed until Wednesday due to curfew in Tripoli

The first plane to evacuate Ukrainian citizens from Libya will make a flight on February 23 due to the declaration of a curfew in Tripoli, Foreign Ministry spokesman Oleksandr Dykusarov told Interfax-Ukraine on Tuesday.

He said that a curfew was to be declared in Tripoli and that it would be in effect every day from 16:00 to 08:00.

"This, in turn, will make it impossible to ensure the safe sending to Tripoli airport of Ukrainian citizens who expressed a desire to return to Ukraine in the evacuation," the diplomat said.

He said that this also complicated the receipt from the competent Libyan authorities of permission to conduct a flight and make a landing at the city’s airport during this period of time.

"Taking this into account, as well as ensuring the safe gathering of Ukrainian citizens at the airport and their boarding the plane, the Foreign Ministry, along with the Emergencies Ministry and the Defense Ministry, is quickly considering the possibility of sending the evacuation plane to Libya tomorrow, on February 23," Dykusarov said
