Kyiv, February 25 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Ukrainian Education, Science and Sports Minister Dmytro Tabachnyk has said that soon the evaluation system for children's physical fitness will be cancelled at schools.

"The evaluation system for physical training will be cancelled. Why did we face tragedies earlier? Because they measured the time for which a child ran 30-60 meters by a stopwatch. This is not the purpose of the subject," the minister told reporters on February 23.

Tabachnyk said that the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine already has prepared a state standard for primary schools, according to which more time will be spent on physical training, and evaluation will be carried out in terms of a child’s presence in fresh air, moving and walking.

"Actually, I don’t think that physical training should be regarded only as an educational load. This should be recreation," he said.

Tabachnyk also said that, according to the new standard, if children attend some sports classes out of school hours, this would be counted as physical training at school.
