Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has signed a law that foresees voluntary sending of the units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to other states, according to a posting on the presidential Web site.

The Verkhovna Rada, Ukraine’s parliament, on February 15, 2011 put amendments to Article 9 of the law of Ukraine on the procedure of sending the units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to other countries, according to which the Armed Forces units are staffed exclusively on a voluntary basis.

The changes also foresee that soldiers, who do military service under contracts and are sent to other states to participate in international peacekeeping operations as part of peacekeeping troops, should sign additions to the contracts on military service. The additions set the conditions and procedure of military service.
