The Prosecutor General's Office of Ukraine has imposed travel restrictions on second Ukrainian President Leonid Kuchma (1994-2005), reads a statement posted on the Web site of the Ukraine Presidential Foundation of Leonid Kuchma charitable organization.

The statement says that Kuchma was summoned to the prosecutor’s office on Wednesday, where he examined a resolution on the opening of a criminal case against him. He was questioned as a suspect in the case.

The prosecutor’s office opened the criminal case against Kuchma under Part 3, Article 166 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine of 1960.

Kuchma was again summoned to the Prosecutor General’s Office at 1000 on Thursday, the foundation’s press service reported.

It was reported on Tuesday that a criminal case related to the murder of reporter Georgy Gongadze was opened against Kuchma.

First Deputy Prosecutor General Renat Kuzmin said that Kuchma is suspected of abuse of power and giving illegal instructions to Interior Ministry officials that later resulted in the reporter’s murder.
