Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has signed a law increasing the general size of social aid for new mothers, as well as the size of the one-time payment of child benefit.

The document was posted on the Web site of the head of state on Thursday.

On March 17, the Verkhovna Rada voted for a bill amending the law on state aid to families and children, which was submitted by the president.

The law sets the size of child benefit, based on the cost of living for children aged less than six years old, as fixed on the date of birth of the child.

Child benefit will be established as an amount divisible by 30 living minimums for the first child, divisible by 60 living minimums for the second child, and divisible by 120 living minimums for the third and all subsequent children.

Payment of child benefit will consist of a one-time payment on birth of ten living minimums, and the rest of the aid will be paid during the following 24 months for the first child, 48 months for the second child, and 72 months for a third, while all subsequent children will receive benefits in equal sums, as established by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine.

The law takes effect on the day of its publication.
