You're reading: Tymoshenko: Events in Lviv were a deliberate provocation by government

Batkivschyna Party leader Yulia Tymoshenko has said that events in Lviv on May 9 were planned beforehand by the government to provoke a confrontation between Ukrainians.

"I’m sure that the events in Lviv and the events around the red flag were planned beforehand by the current government," she told reporters on Tuesday.

According to her, the government "wants to launch a full-scale program in a scheme to divide Ukraine into parts".

"They want Ukrainians today to fight, but not resist the real mafia… which the government currently is," she added.

"I believe that all this was fabricated, the fight was prepared beforehand, and the red flag was the start of this," she said.

The opposition politician called on all Ukrainians not to yield to such provocations, "not to follow these tricks and not to fall for such a ruse."
