Ukrainian Premier Mykola Azarov has called on Vice Prime Minister and Regional Development, Construction and Housing Minister Viktor Tykhonov to complete the drawing up of new regulations in the construction sector by the end of May.

"I demand that Viktor Tykhonov personally monitor the drawing up of each document and complete the required work by the end of the month," the premier said when opening a cabinet meeting on Wednesday.

At the same time, Azarov noted that after a new law on the reduction and simplification of licensing procedures in the town-planning sector was passed, only 24 procedures out of 44 were approved.

"Instead of easing the work of builders, the law on the simplification and reduction in licensing procedures in the town planning sector has currently halted the construction boom, as the old regulations were canceled, while the new ones have not been implemented yet," he said.

Azarov also pointed out that other laws related to reforms and approved in 2010, had not in fact come into effect.
