Warsaw, May 27 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The freedom of speech is observed in Ukraine and an open discussion is taking place in mass media, Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has said.

"At present we see that there is an open discussion in mass media, no one is putting obstacles to anyone, the freedom of speech is guaranteed indeed. Today, we see the opposition in all the media, its point of view is presented," he told reporters in Warsaw, Poland, on Friday.

The president stressed that the current debate in the media demonstrates that Ukraine is moving towards democratic development.

In addition, commenting on Ukraine’s participation in the Summit of Heads of Central European countries, Yanukovych noted that it is "quite natural" because Ukraine is an active participant in the democratic processes taking place in Europe.

"This summit has been a vivid confirmation that the democratic processes in Central and Eastern Europe are irreversible, and they certainly are an integral part of the countries’ development. Ukraine is an active participant in these processes," the president said.
