Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has said that Ukrainian society should take part in state development programs.

During a meeting of the coordinating council on preparations for the celebration of the 20th Independence Day of Ukraine in Monday, the president of Ukraine said that criticism addressed to the authorities contributes to their work.

"As for criticism, it always existed and it will exist, it helps us… As they say, if this is done in an amicable way, then we should be grateful for it. It is important for us to unite society around development programs for our country at the state and regional levels," Yanukovych said.

According to the president, the celebration of the 20th Independence Day of Ukraine should help create Ukraine’s international image.

In particular, Yanukovych charged the respective agencies with organizing celebration of the event with the participation of the Ukrainian diaspora.
