You're reading: Yanukovych appoints Mykytenko as Ukraine’s special representative for Middle East and Africa

Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has signed a decree on Ukraine's special representative for the Middle East and Africa and appointed former Ukrainian Deputy Foreign Minister Yevhen Mykytenko to this post.

According to the clause on Ukraine’s special representative for the Middle East and Africa, attached to the decree published on the Web site of the head of state, the special representative "is a specially empowered person in charge of providing assistance in agreeing actions of the executive government agencies for the development of cooperation between Ukraine and the states of the Middle East and Africa, and preparing proposals for Ukraine’s participation in international measures to assist in bringing about a peace settlement in the Middle East.

The tasks of the special representative include drawing up proposals for the president on Ukraine’s participation in international forums on the settlement of problems and current issues in the development of states of the Middle East and Africa, with regard to Ukraine’s position in conflicts in these states, as well as participating in the preparation of materials for the programs of the Ukrainian president’s visits to these states.

The special representative reports to the president about his work every three months.

In addition, Yanukovych signed three decrees to dismiss three Ukrainian diplomats.

The president dismissed Ukrainian Ambassador to Korea Volodymyr Belashov, Ukrainian Ambassador to Norway Oleksandr Tsvetkov, and Ukrainian Ambassador to Australia and New Zealand Valentyn Adomaytis (part-time official).

On May 24, President Yanukovych signed a decree to dismiss Ukrainian Deputy Foreign Minister Yevhen Mykytenko.

Mykytenko was appointed deputy foreign minister under a cabinet resolution of June 9, 2010. Before that, he had served as Ukraine’s ambassador to Egypt and Sudan (part-time official).
