You're reading: Yanukovych signs law liquidating assessors in courts

Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has signed a law on amendments to the Criminal and Procedural Code of Ukraine regarding the participation of assessors in criminal proceedings in courts, the presidential press service has reported.

The Verkhovna Rada, Ukraine’s parliament, approved a relevant law on May 19. According to the law, the institution of people’s assessors during trial proceedings was liquidated, and cases that are heard by a court with the participation of assessors are moved to courts consisting of three professional judges.
