Ukraine has provided all of the necessary conditions for the development of democratic institutions, Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has said.

"In my opinion, we have created the proper conditions for the development of democratic institutions in our society," he said in Kyiv on Wednesday, opening the 13th World Congress of the Russian Press.

Yanukovych said that the law on the access to public information was passed as part of the democratization of the society.

While addressing representatives of the Russian-language press, the president said that Ukraine had started extensive reforms aimed at modernizing the country.

"Certainly, over 20 years of independence, Ukraine demanded quiet, considerate, and most importantly, comprehensive modernization," Yanukovych said.

The head of state promised to ensure the implementation of the reforms and improvements in living standards.
