Ex-President of Poland Aleksander Kwasniewski has said that Ukraine should seize a unique opportunity provided by its political stability to carry out necessary reforms.
"There is a united team: the president, the government and the parliamentary majority… I’m sure this situation, when there is political stability in the country, should be used in particular for taking unpopular decisions," he said in an interview with Interfax-Ukraine.
Ukraine still has much to do in terms of reforms, Kwasniewski said.
"Those decisions that have been taken in recent months, in my opinion, are good. I think that the pension reform, and the work on creating a free trade zone with the European Union – all this is going in the right direction," the ex-president said.
According to him, Ukraine needs to rearrange the judicial system, take steps to combat corruption and conduct social reforms.
Kwasniewski also welcomed the adoption of the pension reform.
"It was really necessary. Many problems have arisen recently, and people do not understand that [the reforms] are necessary to balance the economy and finances, [and they are] needed by the people themselves, by future retirees," he added.
"The reforms will promote the economic development of the country, will return its credibility, because the lack of credibility is a problem. This is a problem that has arisen in the past few years and at present not talk but solutions are needed," Kwasniewski said.
