Ukrainian Vice-Premier and Social Policy Minister Sergiy Tigipko has admitted that there are problems at the negotiations with the European Union, which are caused by the trial of ex-Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko.
"The Tymoshenko trial complicates the negotiations [on a free trade zone between Ukraine and the EU]," he told the German newspaper Handelsblatten during a visit to Germany.
"We chose Europe for its better economic and democratic standards," he said.
Tigipko said that Europe "should understand that the Ukrainian government has a serious intention of becoming closer to the EU."
