You're reading: Sokolovsky: Tymoshenko had right to give instructions to Naftogaz head to hold talks with Russia

A former presidential representative for international energy security, Bohdan Sokolovsky, who is a witness in the Russian gas supply contract case against former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko, has said he believes that Tymoshenko had the right to give instructions to Naftogaz Ukrainy CEO Oleh Dubyna to hold talks with Russia.

"I don’t know any laws or regulations that would ban Tymoshenko from giving instructions to citizen Dubyna or any other citizen, for example, [Ukrainian businessman Rinat] Akhmetov," Sokolovsky told reporters, while speaking about his testimony in court.

However, he said: "Whether they [the instructions] would be implemented is another question."

Sokolovsky also said that legislation does not ban the Naftogaz head from signing the contracts.

"I don’t know any laws and regulations that would give grounds for Dubyna as head of the state-owned economic entity not to sign any contracts."
