You're reading: Tymoshenko: Opposition should participate in parliamentary elections on single party ticket

Batkivschyna Party leader and former Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko has said she believes that the opposition should unite in order to resist the current authorities and participate in parliamentary elections on a single party ticket.

She told reporters during a break in the hearings of a criminal case against her at Kyiv’s Pechersky District Court on Tuesday that she had repeatedly called on democratic parties to unite.

"For this goal, we tried to set up a committee on protection… I think that the only right decision is for all of the democratic opposition forces to unite and participate in parliamentary elections on a single party ticket, as one team," she said.

Tymoshenko also said that the year 2012 should be the last year in office for President Viktor Yanukovych and his team.

"Oligarchy should go down in history in 2012, along with its proponent, Yanukovych," she said.
