Member of the Our Ukraine - People's Self-Defense faction Viacheslav Kyrylenko has proposed to decriminalize the articles of the Penal Code, under which ex-prime minister and Batkivschyna Party leader Yulia Tymoshenko is currently being tried, and suggested that the bill be backed by the parliament.

"My bill decriminalizes the articles, under which charges were brought against Yulia Tymoshenko and Yuriy Lutsenko [former Ukrainian interior minister]. My bill clearly states that there must be political responsibility for political decisions," Kyrylenko told journalists on Tuesday.

The bill is distinct from those proposed by the president in that it decriminalizes, in particular, the provisions of Article 365, under which Tymoshenko and Lutsenko are currently being tried, while the presidential bill focuses "only on economic crimes," the deputy said.

Commenting on the presidential bill, Kyrylenko said: "Obviously, they have in mind one of their people, who under their bill will be exempt from the responsibility for their crimes. I cannot think of any other comment," he said.
