Former Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko was questioned on Tuesday as a defendant in a new criminal case against her, Prosecutor General Victor Pshonka has said.

"Yesterday, she was questioned as a defendant in the presence of her defense counsel," he said at a briefing on Wednesday.

In turn, MP Serhiy Vlasenko of the BYT-Batkivschyna faction said that he was admitted to Tymoshenko’s defense in a criminal case involving the UESU corporation’s debt and a questioning had already been conducted in this case.

As reported, a new criminal case was opened against Tymoshenko on October 12 for laying the burden of the debts of the UESU corporation on the Ukrainian budget. The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) said that the reason for launching a new criminal case against the former Ukrainian prime minister was a letter from the Russian Defense Ministry to the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, which raised the issue of repaying the corporation’s debt of $405.5 million.
