MEP Alexander Mirsky has said he hopes that a Ukrainian court will consider changing the regime of the detention of former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko, who has been in custody in Lukyanivka jail for over three months, the press center of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has reported.

This question was discussed at a meeting between MEPs and SBU Chief Valeriy Khoroshkovsky on Friday.

"The MEP, referring to issues that are of particular concern to the European public, expressed hope for the possible consideration by the Ukrainian courts of a change in the regime of the detention of Yulia Tymoshenko for humanitarian reasons," reads the statement.

In addition, the sides expressed hope that the successful completion of talks on association and a free trade area would be announced during the Ukraine-EU summit in Kyiv in December.

Khoroshkovsky and Mirsky also exchanged views on ways to reform Ukrainian legislation in order to bring it closer to the standards and principles of the European Union.
