The BYT-Batkivschyna faction in parliament has demanded that former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko and former Interior Minister Yuriy Lutsenko, who are currently in custody, be examined by foreign doctors.

"Taking into account the serious condition of the political prisoners Yulia Tymoshenko and Yuriy Lutsenko, the situation needs international medical aid… We propose that such assistance be urgently agreed to," the leader of the BYT-Batkivschyna faction, Ivan Kyrylenko, said at a meeting of the parliament’s conciliatory council on Monday.

He said that the Canadian government had offered such assistance to Ukraine.

"We need to save the lives of people. God forbid anything happening to them: It would be an indelible stain on [Ukraine’s] history and reputation for all time," Kyrylenko said

He also said that "as the so-called medical examination of Yuriy Lutsenko, Yulia Tymoshenko and [former Acting Defense Minister] Valeriy Ivaschenko showed, the political prisoners are being physically destroyed."
