You're reading: BYT-Batkivschyna replaces its leader

The BYT-Batkivschyna faction in parliament re-elected its leader at a meeting on Wednesday, a source in the faction has told Interfax-Ukraine.

Andriy Kozhemiakin was elected the leader of the faction, in place of Ivan Kyrylenko.

Kozhemiakin earlier served as the first deputy head of the faction.

Kyrylenko said on Tuesday that the opposition was ready to support unpopular bills in exchange for the release of Batkivschyna Party leader Yulia Tymoshenko.

Later, it became known that this was Kyrylenko’s personal position, rather than the position of the faction.

The party’s first deputy head, Oleksandr Turchynov, said that Tymoshenko "should be released without any trading."
