The State Penitentiary Service of Ukraine has announced that ex-Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko has again refused to undergo an examination by a medical commission, the press service of the agency reported.

"The State Penitentiary Service of Ukraine has reported that as a part of dynamic monitoring of Tymoshenko’s health, on Dec. 13, 2011 the inmate was again proposed an examination by experts of the Health Ministry of Ukraine. The commission included highly qualified professionals in the field of neurosurgery, neurology, and dermatology. However, Tymoshenko once again declined the examination. The commission drew up a relevant report," the press service said.

Besides, Kyiv detention center’s leadership said in a statement that in spite of personal statements by Tymoshenko and her defense counsels and reports about the grave health condition of the ex-premier, experts of the Health Ministry of Ukraine, the medical staff of the State Penitentiary Service of Ukraine and Kyiv detention centre constantly offer Tymoshenko to undergo a comprehensive medical examination and get a course of treatment. However, Tymoshenko continues to reject the examination, the proposed blood tests and doesn’t take the prescribed medicines.

Over the whole period of Tymoshenk’s stay in Kyiv jail, a total of 33 visits by health commissions, including 29 teams involving specialists of the Ukrainian Health Ministry, were organized for Tymoshenko in response to her health complaints. The politician refused to undergo medical examination eighteen times, the press service said.

At the same time, medical commissions have not found any reason for surgical treatment of Tymoshenko, as well as for her treatment outside the detention facility, the State Penitentiary Service said. Doctors also found the ex-premier capable of participating in court hearings. Ukrainian Prison Service also released photos of Tymoshenko’s jail cell in the medical unit, clearly showing that her surroundings are comfortable even if the setting is not.
